In this book chapter, a novel construct is introduced, healthy pathways to retirement (HTPR), defined as older workers’ ability to reach their planned retirement ages in good mental and physical health, while maintaining high work performance. It is argued that future research is needed looking at how employers shape HTPR, as they represent a crucial link between national policies and employee outcomes. A multilevel model of HTPR is conceptualized, consisting of macro-meso and meso-micro linkages. New research questions and hypotheses across different levels of analysis are presented.
