Netspar stimulates innovative academic research in all disciplines within the social sciences related to pensions, aging and retirement.
Netspar invites contributions from all areas of Netspar’s research program for the Netspar International Pension Workshop, to be held on June 18-20, 2025.
Topics of interest related to pensions, aging and retirement include, but are not limited to:
- Well-being and welfare of older age groups
- Savings, insurance
- Optimal (sustainable) investments for pension funds and insurance companies
- Measurement of risk and sustainability preferences
- Communication surrounding retirement and old age
- Household decision-making on retirement, choice architecture, financial planning
- Labor market for older age groups
- Vulnerable groups (e.g., freelancers, migrants, women, financially illiterate people, people incapacitated for work), poverty
- Housing and healthcare of the elderly
- Institutions, governance, legal issues
- Inequality, diversity, solidarity

The workshop will consist of contributed paper sessions, we are proud to announce the following keynote speakers:
Christian Gollier is a Professor of Economics at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE). His research focuses on decision-making under uncertainty, long-term investments, and sustainable development, with a particular interest in discounting and intergenerational equity. Gollier has made significant contributions to understanding risk and time preferences, and pension economics, publishing influential works like The Economics of Risk and Time and Pricing the Planet’s Future, Through his work, Gollier continues to shape discussions on sustainability, pensions, and global economic challenges.
Elke Weber is Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs at Princeton University and holds the Gerhard R. Andlinger Professorship in Energy and the Environment. She is an expert in behavioral economics and decision science, focusing on risk perception, sustainability, and long-term financial decision-making. Weber’s research has significant implications for climate policy and pension behavior. By bridging psychology, economics, and environmental science, she provides key insights into how individuals and institutions make decisions under uncertainty.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
For all speakers and discussants, we will provide two or three nights of accommodation. For speakers and discussants who need financial support for their travel costs, limited funding is available upon request (provided that participants stay for the entire duration of the conference). For other conference participants, there is a conference fee of €500 (this fee will be waived for Netspar fellows and representatives of Netspar partners).

Attendance at the International Pension Workshop is free for fellows of Netspar and employees of Netspar partners.
