International Pension Workshop 2024

NETSPAR INTERNATIONAL PENSION WORKSHOP, JUNE 19-21, 2024
THE CITY OF LEIDEN (THE NETHERLANDS)

Netspar stimulates innovative academic research in all disciplines within the social sciences related to aging and retirement. Netspar invites contributions from all areas of Netspar’s research program for the Netspar International Pension Workshop, to be held on June 19-21, 2024.

Topics of interest related to aging and retirement include, but are not limited to:

  • Well-being and welfare of older age groups
  • Savings, insurance
  • Optimal (sustainable) investments for pension funds and insurance companies
  • Measurement of risk and sustainability preferences
  • Communication surrounding retirement and old age
  • Household decision-making on retirement, choice architecture, financial planning
  • Labor market for older age groups
  • Vulnerable groups (e.g., freelancers, migrants, women, financially illiterate people, people incapacitated for work), poverty
  • Housing and healthcare of the elderly
  • Institutions, governance, legal issues
  • Inequality, diversity, solidarity

The workshop will consist of contributed paper sessions and invited keynote presentations.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

  • Suzanne Bliven Shu
    Suzanne B. Shu is the Dean of Faculty and Research for the Cornell University SC Johnson College of Business, and the John S. Dyson Professor in Marketing at Cornell’s Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. Her main area of research is in consumer financial decision making, especially regarding retirement income decisions. Dean Shu received a PhD from the University of Chicago and holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. She is currently an NBER Research Associate.
  • Joshua Rauh
    Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University. Ormond Family Professor of Finance, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Senior Fellow, Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR)‍, Ph.D., Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, B.A., Economics, magna cum laude with distinction from Yale University.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
For all speakers and discussants, we will provide two or three nights of accommodation. For speakers and discussants who need financial support for their travel costs, limited funding is available upon request (provided that participants stay for the entire duration of the conference). For other conference participants, there is a conference fee (this fee will be waived for Netspar fellows and representatives of Netspar partners).

Meer dan inkomen alleen: Levensloopfactoren en financieel welzijn na pensionering – Olaf Simonse – Verena Seibel – After-lunch webinar

Waar pensioenonderzoek traditioneel vooral kijkt naar inkomensniveaus en inkomensvervanging, onderzoekt deze studie juist hoe ook niet-economische factoren bijdragen aan financieel welzijn op latere leeftijd. Centraal staat de vraag hoe levensloopfactoren, sociale ondersteuning, gezondheid en vaardigheden samenhangen met de ervaren financiële zekerheid, weerbaarheid tegen financiële schokken en financiële vrijheid na pensionering. Daarbij is er speciale aandacht voor groepen met een verhoogd risico op financiële kwetsbaarheid, zoals vrouwen en mensen met een migratieachtergrond.
