This paper develops a framework for managing interest-rate conversion risk in the new Dutch pension contract, a collective defined contribution system in which multiple generations share investment risk and protection objectives. We show that a simple return-protection strategy can deliver these targets even under extreme scenarios for the risky portfolio.

Pensioenuitvoerders staan in hun communicatie voor lastige afwegingen. Hoe verhoudt juridische correctheid zich tot begrijpelijkheid? Hoe volledig moet communicatie zijn, en hoeveel ruimte is er om deze naar eigen inzicht in te richten? En hoe zorg je voor onderlinge consistentie, terwijl communicatie verschillende doelen dient en uiteenlopende doelgroepen bedient? Deze dilemma’s worden breed herkend, maar niet altijd eenduidig geïnterpreteerd. Ook bestaat er in de praktijk soms onduidelijkheid over de ruimte die uitvoerders hebben binnen het geldende toezichtskader.
