NETSPAR INTERNATIONAL PENSION WORKSHOP, JUNE 17-19, 2026

DEADLINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSION: MARCH 3, 2026

Netspar stimulates innovative academic research in all disciplines within the social sciences related to pensions, aging and retirement. Netspar invites contributions from all areas of Netspar’s research program for the Netspar International Pension Workshop, to be held on June 17-19, 2026.
Topics of interest related to pensions, aging and retirement include, but are not limited to:

  • Well-being and welfare of older age groups
  • Savings, insurance
  • Optimal (sustainable) investments for pension funds and insurance companies
  • Measurement of risk and sustainability preferences
  • Communication surrounding retirement and old age
  • Household decision-making on retirement, choice architecture, financial planning
  • Labor market for older age groups
  • Vulnerable groups (e.g., freelancers, migrants, women, financially illiterate people, people incapacitated for work), poverty
  • Housing and healthcare of the elderly
  • Institutions, governance, legal issues
  • Inequality, diversity, solidarity


DESCRIPTION WORKSHOP

The workshop will consist of contributed paper sessions, we are proud to announce the following keynote speakers:

  • David Laibson is the Robert I. Goldman Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a Faculty Dean of Lowell House, where he also leads the Foundations of Human Behavior Initiative. His research is rooted in behavioral economics, with a particular focus on intertemporal choice, self-regulation, behavior change, household finance, and aging. Laibson is a member of the National Bureau of Economic Research, where he directs the NIA Roybal Center for Behavior Change in Health and Savings. He serves on several influential boards and advisory committees, including Harvard’s Pension Investment Committee and the Russell Sage Foundation.
  • Marie Brière is the Head of Investor Intelligence & Academic Partnerships at Amundi Investment Institute and an Affiliate Researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles and Paris Dauphine PSL University. Her research is focused on portfolio choice, with a particular emphasis on sustainable finance, household finance, pensions, and the impact of financial technology. Brière is the Scientific Director of the FaIR program at Institut Louis Bachelier and serves on several influential advisory committees, including the ESMA Risk Standing Committee and the scientific council of the French supervisory authority ACPR.

PAPER SUBMISSION / REGISTRATION

Researchers are invited to submit a complete paper via the registration form below by March 3, 2026 at the latest. If you are not interested in submitting a paper, but are willing to participate as a discussant, please register via the registration form below. This will be highly appreciated.

The program committee assessing the submitted papers consists of:

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT

For all speakers and discussants, we will provide two or three nights of accommodation. For speakers and discussants who need financial support for their travel costs, limited funding is available upon request (provided that participants stay for the entire duration of the conference). For other conference participants, there is a conference fee of €500 (this fee will be waived for Netspar fellows and representatives of Netspar partners).

Uit het recente interdepartementale beleidsonderzoek naar toereikende pensioenen komt naar voren dat de pensioenen van groepen werknemers in Nederland ontoereikend zijn. Ons onderzoeksproject richt zich op twee van deze groepen, vrouwen en migranten, en op het effect dat verschillen in pensioenregelingen kunnen hebben op hun pensioenopbouw. In dit webinar gaan we in op het potentiële effect dat pensioenregelingen kunnen hebben op de gender pensioenkloof, en welke maatregelen de kloof mogelijk zouden kunnen verkleinen. Na een zeer interessante editie ter ere van het 20-jarig bestaan van Netspar in 2025, organiseren wij in 2026 weer een reguliere editie van het jaarcongres Pensioen & Wetenschap. Dit congres biedt onderzoekers, beleidsmakers en professionals uit de pensioensector opnieuw een platform om de nieuwste wetenschappelijke inzichten te delen, actuele thema’s te bespreken en de verbinding tussen wetenschap en praktijk te versterken.
