Essays on health and labor economics

This thesis consists of three parts. The first part (chapter 2) examines the validity of a method that aims at improving the interpersonal comparability of self-reports in surveys. The second part (chapters 3 and 4) is concerned with the questions how the demand for medical care is related to health insurance, and to health, respectively. The third part (chapter 5) studies whether job search requirements help older workers to find a job more quickly.
