In memory of Professor René Maatman and Professor Benedict Dellaert
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Professor René Maatman and Professor Benedict Dellaert, both of whom passed away last week.
René was closely involved with Netspar from the outset. He played a key role in expanding our network and research: thanks to his efforts, the legal perspective was given its rightful place. In doing so, he made Netspar truly interdisciplinary. René was a sharp thinker with a deep knowledge of pensions. His contributions ranged from governance and supervision to the role of social partners and the legal frameworks of pension funds.
Benedict also made an invaluable contribution to Netspar. His research was always of the highest scientific standard, and he was able to translate it into practical applications that advanced pension practice. His work focused primarily on the intersection of consumer behavior, choice architecture, risk profiles, and digital support, providing valuable insights for both academics and pension professionals.
We will remember René and Benedict for their substantive impact, and also as warm, committed, and inspiring colleagues who knew how to encourage and help others move forward.
We are grateful for everything they have done for Netspar and our community. Our condolences go out to their families, friends, and colleagues.
