Pensions, Financial Planning and Choice Architecture

On Wednesday October 3, a conference will take place on the theme project: Pensions, Financial Planning and Choice Architecture. The conference is in Amsterdam and is organized by CPB, APG and Netspar.

Due to changes in the pension world, the importance of integral financial planning increases. Not everyone wants or can continue working until the higher state pension age. Early inclusion of the supplementary pension can help to bridge the period until the state pension age. The owner-occupied home is increasingly becoming an additional source of pension income due to the mandatory repayment of the mortgage.Participants can often decide for themselves from what age the pension payment will start. The government and the social partners are considering extending the options for the premium contribution or the pension benefit. A choice architecture with individual standard choices and limits to freedom of choice can help participants make choices that they do not regret afterwards. For the development of the choice architecture in pension schemes, we can learn from the experiences in Australia, Denmark and the UK, who already have experience with broad freedom of choice.

In the morning program Laura van Geest and Marcel Lever (both CPB) will discuss the changing pension world and the importance of financial planning and choice architecture. Afterwards, three foreign speakers will discuss the experiences with freedom of choice in their own country (Australia, Denmark, United Kingdom).  The United Kingdom speaker will be Matthew Arends from the AON Center. In the afternoon program the central question is how the pension profession can support participants in making pension choices, highlighted in the Dutch context. Contributions include APG (Gerard van Olphen, Eduard Ponds) and Tias (Dirk Brounen).

Op 3 oktober vond er een conferentie plaats over het themaproject ‘Keuzearchitectuur in pensioenen en pensionering‘. De conferentie werd in Amsterdam gehouden en werd georganiseerd door het CPB, APG en Netspar.

Voorkeuren voor investeren met oog voor mens en milieu naast winst – After-lunch webinar – Yadi Yang
Pensioenfondsen houden bij hun beleggingsbeleid steeds vaker rekening met zowel financiële als sociale en ecologische doelstellingen. Dit onderzoek laat zien dat de meeste deelnemers financiële doelen belangrijker vinden dan duurzaamheid, hoewel een aanzienlijke groep duurzaamheid juist vooropstelt. Deelnemers met sterkere duurzaamheidsdoelen zijn vaker bereid een lager pensioeninkomen te accepteren in ruil voor betere sociale en ecologische uitkomsten. Daarnaast geven promotiegerichte deelnemers vaker de voorkeur aan inclusiestrategieën, terwijl preventiegerichte deelnemers relatief vaker kiezen voor uitsluitingsstrategieën. De resultaten benadrukken dat pensioenfondsen rekening moeten houden met uiteenlopende deelnemersvoorkeuren en dat een combinatie van inclusie- en uitsluitingsstrategieën het breedste draagvlak kan bieden.

Presenting, discussing & chairing are key skills in an academic’s toolkit, and require practice as well as considering explicit and implicit norms in the profession. Yet, it is not always easy to find good advice on how to do this. In a brief online session Netspar scientific director Mathijs van Dijk will share his main tips on presenting, discussing & chairing, drawing from his own experience. Pensioenevent keuzebegeleiding 2026 – van weten naar doen: versterken van doenvermogen bij pensioenkeuzes
Na twee succesvolle edities van het gezamenlijke pensioenevent over keuzebegeleiding, bundelen de Pensioenfederatie, Netspar en het Verbond van Verzekeraars opnieuw hun krachten. Dit jaar staat in het teken van doenvermogen: het vermogen van (potentiële) deelnemers om intenties daadwerkelijk om te zetten in actie. We verkennen samen hoe je deelnemers niet alleen bewust maakt van hun pensioenkeuzes, maar daar ook de keuzebegeleiding op inricht. Zodat zij een passende pensioenkeuze kunnen maken.
