Inaugurele rede Bas Werker en Lisa Brüggen: “Pensioen in woorden én cijfers”
On behalf of the Rector Magnificus of Tilburg University we cordially invite you to attend the academic session in which
Lisa Brüggen and Bas Werker will deliver their inaugural address, entitled “”Pension in Words and Numbers”.
How do we bridge the gap between words and numbers in science and the pension industry? And how is it possible to truly put the participant at the center along these lines? These are the questions that will be raised during the double inaugural address of Lisa Brüggen and Bas Werker on May 16, 2025. On this date they will accept their chairs at Tilburg University, funded by Instituut Gak.
Dutch pension funds are going to see a lot of changes in the near future. A major internal challenge is the coordination between ALM and communication teams. In other words, the cooperation between colleagues who are involved in financial and actuarial calculations (the ‘numbers’) on the one hand. And on the other hand, colleagues focused on pension participant communications about current and possible future outcomes (the “words”).
This collaboration is crucial in the new reality of the Dutch Future Pensions Act. In it, participants bear the risks more explicitly and more responsibility is placed on pension funds. Werker will outline what this reality will look like. In addition, Brüggen will discuss the new mindset required and ask questions about what it really means to put the participant first.
Instituut Gak aims to contribute to the quality of social security and the labor market in the Netherlands by funding social projects, research, chairs and professorships. More information can be found at www.instituutgak.nl.
Chair Lisa Brüggen
Prof. Dr. Lisa Brüggen has been appointed to the Chair of Pension Communication and Decision Support at Tilburg University. The chair should provide knowledge that will help people learn about their expected retirement income in a timely and better way. The chair investigates which factors influence people’s sense of financial well-being and how this relates to what people actually need.
Chair Bas Werker
Prof. Dr. Bas Werker has been appointed to the Chair of Pension Administration and Risk Management. The research and teaching of the chair focuses on understanding the trade-offs in the complex design of pension contracts in the Future Pensions Act. The chair develops insights into the options for insuring or deliberately taking risks and contributes to a better understanding of the trade-offs. This helps to reduce misunderstandings in public discussion.
