The Potential of Generative AI to Support Health Care Decision Making by Aging Adults

Neil Charness, Weill Cornell Medicine

I discuss results from a project that aims to support health care decision making in older adults with and without cognitive impairment.  Our target is supporting use of the Medicare health insurance plan that covers approximately 65 million Americans over the age of 65, focusing on their needs, preferences, and performance with decision support tools. I discuss the role of trust in adoption of AI systems and a study that assessed accuracy and reliability of speaker- and web-based chatbots.  Then, I describe results from a study of query performance after training with tools such as the Medicare website, the Medicare and You Handbook, and the chatbot Gemini by aging adults with and without cognitive impairment.

Rondetafelbijeenkomst: Dilemma’s in pensioencommunicatie
